Today, I wanted to take a moment to honor the late Senator Andy Hill, on what would have been his 55th birthday. Andy was a devoted husband and father, a widely respected public servant and successful tech innovator. The legacy he has left is certainly a monumental one, and — politics aside — I wanted to recognize the results of his tireless efforts on behalf of the families and community of the 45th Legislative District.
His style of leadership is hard to find these days, it was collaborative and humble. As the chair of the Senate Ways & Means Committee, his budget included a historic increase in education spending, including a college-tuition reduction; and passed with the greatest bipartisan support our state had seen in nearly eight decades. Here is a great piece by The Seattle Times on Andy's work.
He valued working together, he understood that reaching across the aisle was imperative in producing results. Happy birthday, Andy. Thank you for all of your hard work and efforts to leave our state a better place than you found it.
